Celebrating al-Shabih’s Family 

Egyptians welcomed al-Shabih family with celebrations and feasts that lasted for several days as they rejoiced at the arrival of the Prophet’s descendants and his look-alike Yahya. Ziyara books speak of huge crowds that filled al-Shabih family house as people took turns to gaze at Yahya’s face.

استقبل المصريون عائلة القاسم الطيب و ابنه يحيى الشبيه باحتفالاتٍ وموائد دامت بالأيام. ذلك أن الناس استبشروا بقدوم آل البيت وشبيه الرسول الكريم للعيش بينهم و تحمسوا لرؤية لمحات من شكل الرسول في وجه حفيده. وقد ذكرت كتب الزيارة أن منزل الشبيه ظل مزدمًا ومتكدسًا بالناس لأيام بسبب عدد الناس الذين كانوا ينتظرون دورهم لرؤية وجه يحيى. 

Known for his karamat, Yahya appeared to have continuously welcomed visitors seeking to receive some of his blessings. The entire family of al-Qasim maintained a strong connection with the rulers of Egypt, from Ahmad ibn Tulun to Caliph al-Fa’iz.

The love and reverence that rulers held for this family is visible in historic accounts of Yahya’s funeral. Scholar Ibn al-Hajar al-‘Asqalany recounts how Ibn Tulun himself led the funeral prayer with his judge, al-Qadi Bakkar, and that five takbirs were used to honor Yahya instead of four.

Egyptian love for Yahya is also evident in the various nicknames people gave him such as Sahib al-Shama (the one with the mark) in reference to a birthmark he had which was reportedly the same as that of the Prophet. Yahya was also known as al-Zahid (the ascetic) and as Abu Muhammad (father of Muhammad).  

عرف يحيى أيضًا بكراماته التي جذبت له الزوار باستمرار. وقد حافظت عائلة القاسم خلال عدة أجيال على علاقة قوية مع حكام مصر بداية من أحمد بن طولون الذي دعا العائلة إلى مصر وانتهاءً بالخليفة الفائز الذي بنيت قبة الشبيه في عصره.  

أكن حكام مصر الإحترام والحب لهذه العائلة الشريفة كما هو واضح من الروايات التاريخية. فيذكر ابن حجر العسقلاني أن أحمد بن طولون صلى بنفسه على يحيى الشبيه عند وفاته وكان معه قاضيه بكّار. وذكر ابن حجر أن ابن طولون كبر خمسًا في صلاة الجنازة عوضًا عن أربعة. 

يظهر أيضًا حب المصريين ليحيى في الألقاب التي لقّبوه بها مثل لقب صاحب الشامة وذلك بسبب شامة كانت بين كتفي يحيى تشبه خاتم النبوة. عرف يحيى أيضًا بين الناس بالزاهد و أبو محمد.
